Under Permissions assign the Read/Write privilege to the users.

Select Create and under name enter the name of the folder.

Go to Main Menu > Control Panel > Shared Folder.

To create a shared folder, proceed as follows:

rsync > is used when you select a backup module (shared folder on the rsync-compatible server) from the drop-down menu next to Backup module.

remote shell mode > mode will be enabled only when you enter an absolute path (starting with '/') in Backup module, and it only supports encrypted backup.

There are 2 backup modes for backing up from Synology DiskStation to your rsync-compatible server: You will also need to choose the correct backup module with Write privilege.

If you are backing up files from a DiskStation to your own rsync-compatible server, you will need to input the correct rsync backup account name and password.

Under Linux only the accounts 'admin', 'root' and 'rsync' are allowed to perform backup tasks.

Kindly note that all related services (e.g., License) of your Synology Account cannot be transferred. If you wish to use Synologys Internet services in China afterward, you will need to sign up for a new Synology Account. If you set up a synology DDNS it will end with If you do not need to use Synologys Internet services in China, please change your location in your profile to a location other than China. Enter the domain name or IP address of your main NAS in the first box.

Open Cloud Station ShareSync and you will get the screen above.

Now head to the second NAS and install Cloud Station ShareSync.

As well you should also have an SSL Certificate if you would like a secured connection.

HINT: You should also have a domain name or Synology DDNS set up on this server.

On the top menu bar, select the enable button.

Find the share that you want to replicate and select it.

Once installed go to the settings option on the left side.

So on the first NAS install the Cloud Station Server package from the package center.

Using the Synology cloud station server, you can very easily synchronize a share to another Synology NAS. I looked into using rsync or something through Hyper Backup however i found a much easier solution. So recently i bought a second Synology NAS server, my second server is located offsite and i really wanted to synchronize some of my shares to it.
